Anime Expeditions Beginner Guide: 5 Critical Mistakes to Avoid in Your First 5 Hours
Anime Expeditions blends traditional tower defense layouts with deep, multi-layered character progression. Landing on the spawn map drops a massive amount of menus, currencies, and map nodes in front of you, making it incredibly easy to burn rare resources on temporary starter units.
To maximize your progression efficiency and establish a powerful team early on, you must follow a strict developmental loop from your first minute in the game.

The Hour-One Efficiency Loop
Misallocating resources in your first hour can set your account back by days of farming. Follow this exact sequence to build your baseline team safely.
1.Claim Free Promo Codes Immediately:Prerequisite: Do this before interacting with any banner menus.
Before entering a single map node, open your settings menu via the top toolbar to redeem all active Anime Expeditions codes. These grant an initial pool of Gems and Trait Crystals. Hold these resources completely raw; do not spend them on basic gacha pulls or starter trait rerolls yet.
2.Run the Beginner Path Event:Time estimate: 30 to 45 minutes.
Skip the urge to explore custom map rooms. The Beginner Path serves as your functional tutorial, guiding you through basic summon mechanics, equipment slots, comprehensive character tier list, and standard combat setups. Completing these challenges awards gold, gems, Stat Rerolls, and a foundational stack of Grey Sprites.
3.Exhaust All Beginner Tickets:Prerequisite: Saves your premium Gem economy.
The Beginner Path rewards you with specialized Beginner Tickets. Invest these exclusively into the Beginner’s Banner. This pool features high-probability rates for reliable starter units that carry you through early maps without draining your premium currency reserves.
4.Push Story Mode to Reach Account Level 10:Operational constraint: Unlocks the highest-tier units.
Focus every point of stamina on clearing the main Story Mode chapters. The primary goal is to push your account directly to Level 10. High-tier Secret units (such as Shadow and 8th Sword) are locked behind an account milestone; pulling on premium pools before reaching Level 10 severely lowers your roster efficiency.
Mastering the Banner Economy
Once your Beginner Tickets are exhausted, you must choose how to deploy your hard-earned Gems. Many beginners fall into the trap of split-pulling across banners, which fragments their pity counter.
| Banner Type | Target Roster | Tactical Recommendation |
| Beginner Banner | High-tier starter units | Absolute priority until all free tickets are fully spent. |
| Standard Banner | Massive pool, includes Secret and Mythic units | Use this exclusively during early game to broaden your base roster. |
| Mini Banner | A narrow, concentrated pool of featured units | Avoid entirely until the late game when hunting specific duplicate copies. |
Strategic Note: The Mini Banner seems appealing due to targeted drop rates, but its limited pool forces repetitive Legendary duplicates early on. As a beginner, you need a diverse roster of element types and attack patterns to clear varying map hazards. Stick to the Standard Banner until your core team is established.
Unit Composition: DPS vs. Support Pitfalls
Flashy support units look attractive on paper, but they are completely useless if your base damage profile cannot clear early waves. In Story Mode, pure damage per second (DPS) is king. You must build your line around characters that eliminate targets long before they reach your base boundaries.
High-Priority DPS Units
Focus all your early leveling resources, food items, and base equipment slots on these specialized damage dealers:
- Flame Emperor & Lady Giant: Exceptional wide-area damage patterns for clearing dense target swarms.
- Elf Mage & String Demon: Exceptional line damage and consistent single-target pressure.
- Reaper & Ice Queen: High base scaling that easily outpaces early chapter health pools.
Early-Game Support Traps
Ignore these units during your initial campaign push. They excel in high-tier Guild Raids and late-game Challenges, but they slow down your early map clear times drastically:
- Avoid Early: Scissor, Greed, Stone Alchemist, Ice Mage, Water Princess.
- Save For Later: Salmon Sorcerer, Puppet, The Hero.
Long-Term Resource Management
Traits and Evolutions offer massive stat multipliers, but managing them incorrectly is the fastest way to hit a hard progression wall.
The Trait Crystal Hoarding Rule
Traits provide massive passive buffs to range, critical chance, and raw damage output. High-tier variations—such as Unbound, Primordial, Forsaken, and Draconic—hold exceptionally low drop rates.
Never burn your Trait Crystals on Rare or Legendary starter units. You will replace these units within a few hours of unlocking your first Mythic characters. Save every crystal until you secure a permanent, top-tier DPS unit.
Grey Sprite Optimization
Evolution provides the single largest power jump in the game. Evolution recipes require colored Sprites, gold, and specific items found in unit-specific trials.
Because Grey Sprites serve as the universal foundation for material crafting every single colored variant, they are the most valuable material asset in your early inventory. Check your Daily Calendar, Achievements, and Level Milestones constantly to collect them. Never convert Grey Sprites into colored variants until you have the exact unit recipe ready to execute.
